Well Tim and Sidizens, it looks like a couple of Uncle Timmy’s Toronto Raptor Cast Offs are now NBA Champions. The same players that were either let go from the organization because they were deemed past their prime or players that Brian Colangelo only acquired to free up cap space and/or use as bargaining tools. So in some weird way, the Raptors had a hand in this year’s Championship run by the Dallas Mavericks.
1. Peja Stojakovic: After being traded to the Toronto Raptors in late 2010, Stojakovic only played 2 games with the team before being sidelined for 26 contests with a sore left knee. In January of 2011, Peja was eventually released by the team and picked up by the Mavericks in exchange for Alexis Ajinca.
2. Shawn Marion: Marion arrived in Toronto in February of 2009 in a trade for Jermaine O’Neal where he played out the rest of the season in a Raptors uniform. The free-agent-to-be was then traded in July 2009 to the Dallas Mavericks in a four-team deal involving the Raptors, Mavericks, Grizzlies, and Magic.
3. Tyson Chandler: In July 2010, a proposed trade between the Raptors and Bobcats was announced that saw the Raptors receiving both Boris Diaw and Tyson Chandler in exchange for Jose Calderon and Reggie Evans. However, not long after the news, Michael Jordan nixed the trade after having “second thoughts” and soon after, Chandler was traded to the Dallas Mavericks.
Three pretty big players in the Dallas Mavericks 2011 NBA Championship title run this year. Hopefully, Cuban sent Colangelo a Thank You card and a Cheese Basket.
